Set sail on this stunning America’s Cup contender, the last wooden 12 built in the United States.
Designed, Skippered, and Built by Charles Morgan
Heritage is the last wooden 12 Meter constructed in the United States. Her original design featured a separate keel and rudder and used Sitka Spruce to reduce hull weight and increase speed. Heritage's varnished wood hull makes her stand out as a rare beauty in the Narragansett Bay.
1970 America’s Cup Contender
Heritage ran a strong campaign but was ultimately eliminated by Intrepid in the Defender’s Series. However, her 1970 America’s Cup campaign was only her first act before she found success as an offshore racer.
A Winner on the Open Seas and the Great Lakes Circuit
After her Cup campaign, Heritage was converted for ocean racing with the addition of an auxiliary engine, galley, and pipe berths. She made a name for herself with back-to-back wins in the Chicago to Mackinac Race (1983 & 1984) and a win at Antigua Race Week as well.

Meet Heritage’s Captain Shivani Sood
Shivani Sood holds a U.S. Merchant Marine 100 Ton Master License and is the owner and Captain of the bright-hulled 12 Meter Heritage. Her knowledge of her yacht, the America's Cup, and the rich sailing tradition of the Newport area is immediately clear to anyone who climbs aboard with her and her crew. Shivani grew up in California, where she earned a degree in Marketing from California State University, Northridge. She later pursued a professional sailing career as crew on Tabor Academy’s 115′ schooner Tabor Boy, a sail training vessel, for deliveries between New England and the US Virgin Islands. She and her husband went on to operate term charter programs on several yachts in the Caribbean and New England. Today, Shivani has sailed over 10,000 offshore miles and enjoys her winters maintaining two over 50-year-old wooden vessels: Heritage and Gansett, a lobster-fishing vessel converted to a yacht.
