The Newport Trophy
America's Cup Charter's American Eagle wins the Newport Trophy this weekend! The Newport Trophy was held here in Newport, RI this past weekend with 4 Divisions of 12 Meters competing. The opening reception and captains meeting held at The Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina kicked off a weekend of racing. Ida Lewis Yacht Club was the organizing authority and ran a very smooth and successful regatta. Saturday's racing was held off shore with beautiful blue skies and a breeze that fluctuated between 10-17 knots. Sunday's racing was held north of Newport Bridge with breezes ranging from 14-20 knots, all in all great conditions for the 12's.
The Modern Division was won by America's Cup Charters' Intrepid. She had 4 first place finishes and 1 second place. Jack Curtan was on the helm with his veteran teammates onboard. Good crew work, the right decisions and a great 12 Meter made it a successful weekend of sailing for the Intrepid team. In the Traditional Division American Eagle took first in all 5 races. Owner Herb Marshall, credited American Eagles success on highly skilled crew work. American Eagle narrowly beat out Intrepid for the Newport Trophy.... a great weekend for the America's Cup Charters stablemates!
